Superfood: Benefits of Spirulina

You may have heard about Spirulina but do you really know what it is? Spirulina is a blue-green algae that grows in warm water lakes all over the world. So how does this microscopic plant become one the most talked about superfood? Spirulina was originally discovered in Africa. It is used in Africa after many researches, to increase nutrition and lessen diseases such as scurvy.  It is has now has been proven to increase the immune system strength, slow the aging process and help fight cancer.

Among the many benefits of Spirulina is its source of rich nutrition. It can help to improve an infant’s diet with the source of protein and B-vitamin complex. It is also rich in beta carotene which can help to heal eye problems caused by Vitamin A deficiency. The substantial amount of an essential fatty acid GLA helps to regulate the hormone system. Spirulina has been proven to boost bolster energy, immune system and reduce the risks of cancers and infections.

With daily intake, Spirulina can eliminate iron anemia, a common mineral deficiency. It also an easily digestible protein thus it is suitable for children with malnutrition problem as it is already proven to contribute to the rapid recovery of the children in Rwanda, Zaire, India and more. That is why it is an essential superfood to be taken daily because as our age increase and we experience body changes, we need a highly nutritious food to balance our diet.
