Often in our daily hectic lives, we rarely get the chance to eat properly resulting in the lack of proper nutrition. It is almost impossible for us to get all the required nutrients as outlined in the food pyramid. Even if we do take the necessary fresh food for nutrition but it might not be in the suitable amount. As we lack the daily intake of vitamins, fiber or minerals, we need to take dietary supplements that can help us to complete our nutritious diet.
Dietary supplements are especially fitting for young kids, pregnant moms and older adults as these people need to have more nutrition in their diets. For young kids, they need to take vitamin or mineral supplements especially if they are picky eaters or don’t like to drink milk. Pregnant moms have to take more iron and folic acid supplements while older adults need to take B12 vitamin supplements. There are a variety form of dietary supplements including capsules, powder, pills and liquids.
Taking dietary supplements don’t only help us to have the right amount of nutrition but also help boost our immune system to prevent illnesses. This is especially the case if you are prone to get sick. For example, if a kid takes a vitamin C tablet, he might just avoid having a cold. Dietary supplements like anti-oxidant supplements can help to get rid of any harmful toxins that might exist in our food or environment.
It is important however that you discuss with a physician or dietitian on the right supplements for your body. Dietary supplements can bring side effects to people with pre-existing health conditions or people who take the wrong amount of supplements. Dietary supplements can only help you to have the necessary nutrition but not completely replace it.
